Dense and opaque - a real sign of the vintage. Exciting, bright aromatics that key in on those big Merlot markers: plum/plum pudding, black cherry, raspberry, violet, dark chocolate and walnut oil. Streaks of meat, dark spices and menthol carry through the mid-palate. Fleshy, round, robust, and enough youthful tannin (post-bottling) that will tame into silk over time. Still retains classic, local freshness to encourage second and third (and fourth?) glasses.
